Half Of Major Truck Accidents Are Preventable

Engineers at Mercedes-Benz conducted a fleet test of 1,000 big rigs in 2006. The results of the study showed that roughly 50% of serious truck accidents could be prevented. Trucks equipped with Lane Assistant, stability control and proximity control systems had less than half of the accidents  compared to trucks without the safety equipment.  The trial study lasted over a year and covered over 66 million miles of driving. The safety equipment effectively reduced the number of rear-end collisions and truckers going off road. Hopefully, technological advances in safety equipement will continue to evolve and become more commonplace on big rigs operating on public roadways. Kentucky's roadways could certainly benefit from these safety advances.
