Kentucky Trucker Faces Lawsuit for Bus Crash

A Kentucky trucker and his trucking company face a lawsuit for a crash that happened March 22, when an unloaded gravel truck hit a Pike County school bus that was carrying 43 children. The lawsuit, which was filed against Kendall V. Slusher (the driver) and Kenny Belcher (the trucking co. owner) seeks to recover damages for "past and future pain, suffering and inconvenience, medical and other expenses and punitive damages."

According to police who arrived at the scene, Slusher was driving too fast on a wet road, and his vehicle had defective brakes. An accident reconstructionist determined that Slusher's truck had just come around a steep curve of U.S. 460 when it slid sideways and, unable to brake properly, skid into the front end of the school bus.

One child had to be rescued from the bus due to the damages that were incurred.

Slusher faces several charges related to commercial trucking negligence. According to the prosecuting attorney, both Slusher and Belcher neglected to properly inspect the truck before its operation, which in turn was the cause of the accident.

Hearing dates in the lawsuit have not yet been set.
