Semi-Truck Crash Shuts Down Pennyrile Parkway Overnight, Henderon County, Kentucky

Henderson County, Kentucky. A truck driver from Michigan, traveling on Pennyrile Parkway late night Monday, was suddenly caused to swerve off the road resulting in the semi-truck flipping over onto its side. According to the Henderson County Sheriff's Office, the wreck happened closed to midnight at or near the Kentucky 425 exit. Deputies reported that the truck driver was able to jump out of the truck just before it went up in flames. Deputies said that the driver suffered injuries and was treated at the scene.

Authorities were forced to shut down the northbound lanes of the Pennyrile for nearly six hours to clean up the mess. At one point, both the north and southbound lanes were closed. All lanes of traffic reopened shortly before 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 21, 2010. According to the Sheriff's Office, investigators were still looking into what caused the truck driver to swerve off the road. Although commuters were inconvenienced for many hours, it is fortunate that no other injuries were reported. Not every wreck involving a truck, however, gets such a happy ending.
