January 23, 2012 – Louisville, Ky. – A 2-vehicle car accident on Friday night, January 20, wounded 2 people who had to be taken to the hospital to seek medical care.
WHAS11 reports that the accident happened shortly before 8 p.m. on Newburg Road, near the Watterson. Officials said that an SUV and a sedan crashed into one another on the roadway. Further details of how the accident occurred are not available at this time.
Both vehicles were so damaged in the accident that both drivers were trapped inside. Firefighters had to cut off the vehicles’ doors to free the victims.
Reports indicate that 2 people had to be transported to the hospital following the accident. Officials said that their injuries do not appear to be life threatening.
The names of those involved in the accident have not yet been revealed.
The accident remains under investigation by local officials.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Kentucky Crash Statistics, there were 791 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents in Kentucky.
