January 20, 2012 – Taylorsville, Ky. – A single-vehicle accident in Spencer County left two teenage girls dead and one more injured Wednesday, January 18.
WAVE 3 reports that the Spencer County crash happened Wednesday afternoon on Mike Brown Road in Taylorsville. Officials said that the three teenage girls were in a pickup truck at the time of the accident. The driver lost control, causing the truck to go off of the roadway and roll over multiple times.
Two of the girls, the driver and one of the passengers, were ejected from the vehicle as it rolled. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
The third teenager was seriously injured and had to be transported to University Hospital via medical helicopter. The extent of her injuries remains unknown.
The cause of the accident remains to be determined. Officials said that weather was not a factor and that reconstructions should help to identify other possible factors such as speeding or texting.
Spencer County has been described as a small, tight-knit community that will be hit hard by the loss of the two high school juniors. A crisis response team has been scheduled to be at Spencer County High School.
