September 12, 2011 - Louisville, Ky. - At least 4 vehicles were involved in an accident that injured 6 people on Sunday, September 11.
WHAS11 reports that the accident happened in the 3000 block of Breckinridge Lane when multiple vehicles collided on the roadway resulting in one of the vehicles catching fire on impact. Exact details concerning how the crash occurred are not yet available.
Officials with MetroSafe said that the 6 people who were injured in the accident were transported to local hospitals for treatment. The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time.
One woman's vehicle was so badly damaged in the accident that fire fighters had to rescue her from the vehicle by using Jaws of Life. Witnesses on the scene said that the woman seemed to have suffered the worst injuries out of the 6 victims.
The cause of the accident remains to be determined. The accident is under ongoing investigation.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Kentucky Crash Statistics, there were 791 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents in Kentucky.
