Car Accident In Cherokee Park

Posted on Jul 01, 2009

From the Louisville Courier-Journal:

"One person was killed and another seven were injured Tuesday night in a rollover crash on a road bordering Cherokee Park.

peed was believed to be a factor in the wreck, which happened in a winding section of Cherokee Road about 9:30 p.m., said Louisville Metro Police spokesman Dwight Mitchell.

All those involved in the wreck were believed to be teenagers, he said.

The person who died was ejected from the vehicle, a Ford Explorer, and pronounced dead at the scene, Mitchell said.

The seven who were injured were transported to Kosair Children's Hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.

"Apparently the driver lost control of the vehicle and it flipped over several times," Mitchell said. "According to witnesses, they were going at a high rate of speed."

Betty Caudle, 80, said she came upon the wreck on her way to the dog park just minutes after it happened.

"Everything was real quiet," she said. "People were just milling around."

After telling someone to call EMS, Caudle said she could see one injured person on the side of the road opposite the car and another person leaning over a third person on the ground."
