August 24, 2011 - Louisville, Ky. - A pedestrian was killed when he was struck by a car while waiting for a bus Sunday, August 21.
From reports on WHAS11, the accident happened shortly after 6 a.m. on North Dixie Highway, near Blanton Lane. A man was waiting by a bus stop when, for reasons unknown, a car crashed into him. Further details concerning the reason behind the accident occurring are not yet accessible.
The pedestrian was killed in the accident. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the victim has not yet been released. The driver of the vehicle was not injured in the accident. The driver's identity is also unknown.
No other injuries or fatalities have been reported in connection with this accident. Although the cause of the accident remains unknown, police said that the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel. The accident is under continuous investigation by Louisville Metro Police.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Kentucky Crash Statistics, there were 791 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents in Kentucky.
