August 26, 2011 - Elizabethtown, Ky. - A woman was killed in an accident that involved a tractor trailer during Wednesday afternoon, August 24, in Elizabethtown.
WHAS11 reports that the Interstate 65 accident happened at about 1:30 p.m. close to exit 86. Larry Harris, 65, of Nashville, Tenn., was driving an international semi hooked with a trailer northbound on I-65.
The semi-truck slowed at a construction zone to proceed into a lane merge. The truck was then struck from behind by a 2000 Ford Escort.
The driver of the Escort, April Crain, 20, of Upton, was fatally injured in the accident. Crain died at the scene of the truck accident. Harris did not suffer any injuries in the crash.
The cause of the accident remains to be investigated by county authorities. Officials said that Crain was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident and that alcohol was not a factor.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Kentucky Crash Statistics, there were 791 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents in Kentucky.
