Head-On Car Crash in Campbellsville, Kentucky Injures 1, Kills 2

May 7, 2012 – Campbellsville, Ky. – A head-on car crash took the lives of 2 teenagers and injured another person on Sunday, May 6.

Wave 3 states that the accident happened in the eastbound lane of U.S. 0068. Officials said that a vehicle driven by Justin Atwood, 19, was travelling westbound on the roadway when the driver attempted to pass another car and went into the opposite lane of traffic. Atwood’s vehicle then collided head on with an eastbound Jeep.

Atwood and his passenger, Jade M. Sullivan, 17, were killed in the accident. They were confirmed dead on the site. Officials said that both teenagers were not wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

The Jeep’s driver, Lauren Dryer, 21, suffered non-life threatening wounds in the crash. She was sent to University of Kentucky Hospital for treatment.

There has been no word on charges in connection with this accident.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s 2010 Kentucky Crash Statistics, there were 760 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents in Kentucky.
