A portion of Interstate 71, in the Louisville area, was shutdown when a car crashed into a guardrail. The incident took place on the northbound portion of the Kentucky interstate near the Watterson Expressway interchange.
Dwight Mitchell, a spokesperson for the Louisville Metro Police, indicated that fire and rescue crews responded to three accidents that had apparently occurred about the same time.
The Louisville car accident took place at approximately 9:00 AM on Friday morning, September 25, 2009.
According to authorities, rescue crews transported one woman to a local hospital for injuries. She has not been identified as of yet. She apparently crashed into a guardrail along Interstate 71. Reports indicate that she injured her arm when she exited her car and attempted to get the car out of the way. The injury occurred when another vehicle slammed into her car, pushing it into her.
According to Mitchell, there were children also involved in the accidents. However, he said that none of the children were injured and that they had all been wearing seatbelts.
Other drivers were inconvenienced when the northbound lanes of Interstate 71 were shutdown due to the crash. According to dispatchers, traffic was diverted onto the Watterson Expressway while crews cleaned up the accident. The interstate reopened later in the day.
