May 3, 2011 - Bowling Green, Kentucky - In a report from Yahoo News, the Kentucky legislature failed to adopt measures that could have helped prevent nursing home abuse.
According to the findings of the 2010 report, Elder Abuse in Kentucky, there continues to be a significant problem with nursing home abuse and neglect. After an investigation of 2,048 facilities, there were 368 indications of abuse or neglect taking place.
However, there were 3 measures that the Kentucky Legislature failed to pass, which included:
not only those who work directly with residents but even cooks and custodians.
This last House bill was strongly supported by Kentucky's Governor, Steve Beshear, however, all 3 measures failed to pass.
This puts the ball back in the court of the resident's family to try and take appropriate steps to deal with any cases of nursing home abuse or neglect.
