A fiery crash in Oldham County results in one person losing their life. The car accident took place on Interstate 71 in the Northern Kentucky area at approximately 3:00 AM on Wednesday morning, September 30, 2009.
According to Police, the driver was traveling northbound on Interstate 71 near the 13 mile marker when the incident took place. Apparently the driver lost control of their sports utility vehicle (SUV) and veered into the center median. The SUV reportedly struck some debris causing it to veer back onto the road and finally crashing into an illegally parked tractor-trailer. The tractor-trailer was parked on the shoulder of the Kentucky interstate.
Authorities have yet to release the identity of the driver of the SUV or the owner of the tractor-trailer. Also, no other information has been provided as to whether the driver died at the scene or had been transported by rescue workers to a local hospital where they may have later died due to injuries sustained in the wreck.
Other travelers along the interstate were inconvenienced for several hours while crews cleaned up the wreck. The northbound portion of the interstate was reopened later that morning.
The crash is still under investigation by authorities.
