A Lexington car accident involving a car and a Tennessee man ends in the death of the pedestrian after he attempted to cross the road. The incident took place on Saturday, November 14, 2009.
According to local police, Anthony Gibbs, 24, of Clinton, Tennessee, was struck by a car while attempting to cross a Lexington road on Saturday. The driver of the 1999 silver Audi sedan struck Gibbs, seriously injuring him and then apparently fled the accident scene.
The vehicle involved in the incident is registered to 23-year-old Hector Alviter-Rivera. Police found the silver car abandoned on a dead-end street not too far from the accident scene.
Rescue workers transported Gibbs to a nearby Lexington hospital where he remained in critical condition and in a coma for most of the week. According to the Fayette County coroner’s office, the Tennessee man was pronounced dead on Wednesday night after succumbing to injuries sustained in the fatal hit-and-run car accident.
According to the Lexington Herald-Leader, Gibbs was in town from Tennessee where he was working on a nearby construction project.
The apparent hit-and-run incident involving the pedestrian is still under investigation by local authorities. Police are still searching for Alviter-Rivera for questioning.
