February 13, 2012 – Elizabethtown, Ky. – A person was injured after a car crashed into an embankment on Sunday, February 12.
WAVE 3 indicates that the incident happened on Interstate 65 at the 97 mile marker, 3 miles north of Elizabethtown. Officials confirmed that a Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck was driving southbound along the interstate when it went off the right shoulder. The truck then crashed into a large rock before hitting a rock embankment.
The vehicle’s driver, Ben Banks, 64, of Marion, Ind., was injured in the accident. He was taken to Hardin Memorial Hospital immediately following the wreck, but later had to be flown to University of Louisville Hospital. The full extent of his injuries is unknown at this time.
The pickup truck was the only vehicle involved in the crash. No other injuries have been brought forth.
The cause of the crash remains to be determined. The accident is under ongoing investigation by Kentucky State Police.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Kentucky Crash Statistics, there were 791 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents in Kentucky.
