July 29, 2011 - Lexington, Ky - Police are still investigating a chain-reaction crash that may have been caused by a woman under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
WKYT27 Newsfirst reports the crash took place on July 25, at the intersection of Newton Pike and Sugar Maple Way. The driver, Jimmie Sloan, 38, failed to stop as she approached another car containing 2 occupants. As she struck the rear end of the vehicle it caused a chain reaction that sent it into the back of at least one other vehicle.
As emergency crews responded, an elderly couple had to be cut out of their damaged vehicle. In total, 4 people were injured and taken to local hospitals while traffic on Newton Pike was backed up for more than an hour.
Police investigating the accident said that Sloan may have been drinking and taking pills before driving. She's being charged with DUI and drug charges, but may face higher charges pending the severity of the injuries sustained by the 4 victims.
