November 11, 2010 - Louisville, KY - The Courier-Journal reports that a pedestrian was killed on a ramp leading from the Watterson Expressway to Interstate 65. The fatal pedestrian accident took place early on the morning of October 27 while David Alan Lego, 46, was walking in the emergency lane of a ramp on the eastbound Watterson Expressway.
Lego's Pontiac van, left on the side of Watterson Expressway, had apparently broken down. A woman driving a 1999 Kia Sportage indicated to police that when a tractor-trailer came too close to her vehicle, she swerved her car to avoid it. That's when she hit Lego in the emergency lane.
Lego was thrown from the ramp's overpass onto the road below. He died at the scene of the accident, suffering from multiple blunt force injuries.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Kentucky Crash Statistics, there were 791 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents in Kentucky.
