Serious Rollover Crash Involving UPS Truck Shuts Down I-75

August 5, 2010 - Rockcastle County, KY - Traffic was backed up for miles on the northbound lanes of I-75 near mile marker 65 due to a rollover crash involving a UPS tractor-trailer on August 5^th.

Reports from WKYT27 identify the driver as Robert Taylor of Knoxville, TN. He was traveling northbound on I-75 when witnesses say he turned left for an unknown reason, then kept turning left until the truck flipped. After rolling several times, the UPS truck came to a stop in the median with the cab stuck underneath the trailer.

It took rescue workers nearly 2 hours to extract Taylor from the cab after which he was airlifted to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville. Despite the severe nature of the crash and rescue efforts, he was listed with only minor injuries. Currently, it is unknown what caused Taylor to lose control of his truck.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2008 Kentucky Crash Statistics, there were 826 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents in Kentucky.
