Shots Fired at an Okolona Accident Scene

Posted on Dec 26, 2009

An Okolona accident involving a woman and a police cruiser ends with a high speed pursuit and shots being fired. The incident began at approximately 4:00 AM on Sunday morning, December 20, 2009 near Preston Highway and Trio Avenue.

According to police spokesperson Dwight Mitchell, an unidentified woman driving a blue Dodge Ram crashed into a police cruiser driven by a Louisville Metro Police officer, who remains unidentified as well. The woman hit the cruiser when she allegedly drove over a concrete parking space block and sidewalk and into traffic while leaving a Jerry’s Restaurant parking lot.

Both, the officer and the woman were treated for non-serious injuries. Police believe that alcohol was a contributing factor in the accident.

While police were investigating the accident, a man traveling northbound on Preston Highway in a white Toyota Avalon, sped through the accident scene. Police from Louisville Metro and Hollow Creek pursued the fleeing car to the 4200 block of Foreman Lane where police shot the suspect. According to Mitchell, the unidentified man was shot three to four times.

The man then got back into his car and drove another half of a mile when he finally slammed into a utility pole at Preston Highway and Miles Lane.

Rescue workers transported the suspect to University Hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

According to Mitchell, some of the officers suffered minor injuries. The identities of the officers involved have not been released.
