Victim Dies after Fatal Shelbyville Crash Involving 2 Semi Trucks

Posted on Nov 03, 2011

November 3, 2011 - Shelbyville, Ky. - The victim of a previously reported semi-truck accident has died from his injuries that resulted from an October 13th accident.

A follow-up from WAVE 3 reported that 1 of the victims, William Goodwin, 23, of Pleasureville passed away at the hospital after his injuries became critical. Goodwin was the driver of the pickup truck that was merging onto I-64 near the Shelbyville eastbound exit when he was struck by a semi-tractor trailer, after losing control of his vehicle on the wet pavement.

Goodwin's vehicle then crashed into a concrete embankment. After striking Goodwin's truck, the first semi came to rest in the median where it was then struck by a westbound semi.

Neither semi driver was seriously injured in the crash, but one was transported along with Goodwin to the University of Louisville Hospital for examination. Goodwin sustained fatal injuries that resulted in his death on October 21st. The Kentucky State Police are continuing to investigate the situation.

Based on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Kentucky Crash Statistics, there were 791 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents in Kentucky.
