November 18, 2010 - Hawaii News Now reports that a woman from Hawaii has filed a lawsuit because she received a faulty hip replacement system.
Jacqueline Lum has filed a lawsuit against DePuy Orthopedics after the hip replacement system she received in August 2009 failed. Her lawsuit alleges that the company was aware of the defective product 2 years before she received it. In addition, she is seeking punitive damages from Johnson and Johnson for failing to properly test the system.
The hip replacement system is supposed to last 15 years but didn't even last 15 months for Lum. It has left her in constant pain because of the left hip socket's wear and tear. This requires she take medication on a regular basis.
Lum is also suffering from other complications because the system deposited heavy metals into her bloodstream. Tests reveal that Lum has 30 times the normal level of cobalt and 10 times the normal level of chromium in her system.
This August, DePuy Orthopedics issued a recall because of consumer reports of pain and other symptoms related to the defective hip replacement system.
