January 27, 2012 – Jeffersonville, Ky. – A woman was seriously injured when she was hit by a bicycle and a car on Wednesday, January 25.
Wave 3 reports that the accident happened at about 6:15 p.m. on the Clark Memorial Bridge. Police said that the bicyclist was travelling northbound on the bridge’s east sidewalk when the bike crashed into a woman who was walking southbound. The woman then fell off of the sidewalk and into a northbound lane, where she was hit by an oncoming vehicle.
The vehicle’s driver stopped and called 911.
The woman suffered serious head injuries in the accident. She was transported to University Hospital for treatment. The driver and the bicyclist were not injured in the accident. No further injuries have been reported. The identities of those involved in the accident have not been released.
So far no charges have been filed. Police said that they do not expect to charge either the driver or the bicyclist.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Kentucky Crash Statistics, there were 791 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents in Kentucky.
