January 12, 2012 – Rineyville, Ky. – A woman is in critical condition after a single-vehicle car accident on Saturday, January 7.
WLKY reports that the accident happened early in the morning on Berrytown Road. According to Kentucky State Police, a vehicle was travelling on the roadway when it veered off its path. Its driver then overcorrected, causing the vehicle to overturn multiple times before coming to a rest.
The vehicle’s driver, Chelsea McClanahan, 18, was thrown from the vehicle as it rolled. McClanahan was first treated on the scene of the accident before being airlifted to University of Louisville Hospital for further medical treatment. She is said to have suffered life-threatening injuries.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident and there were no other passengers where in the vehicle. No further injuries have been brought forth.
The cause of the accident remains under the stages of investigation by local officials.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Kentucky Crash Statistics, there were 791 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents in Kentucky.
