Man Charged near Owenton, Kentucky DUI Car Accident that Killed Brother

May 17, 2012 – Owenton, Ky. – A man has been charged in a DUI car accident that killed his brother early in the morning on Wednesday, May 16.

The Lexington Herald-Leader reports that the incident happened on Frank Clark Road, 12 miles south of Owenton. According to a police report, Lamonte Richardson, 55, of Owenton, was driving a vehicle along the roadway when he suddenly lost control of the car causing it to veer off the roadway and crash.

Lamonte Richardson and his brother, Brian Richardson, 59, were trapped in the vehicle for several hours after the crash. A passing motorist eventually spotted their car and called the police. Lamonte Richardson was not injured in the accident, but Brian Richardson died at the scene.

The cause of the accident was reported to be drunk driving. Lamonte Richardson has been charged with driving under the influence. The car accident is under ongoing investigation by local authorities.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2010 Kentucky Crash Statistics, there were 760 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents in Kentucky.
