A man is killed when he loses control of his vehicle and crashes outside of an Owensboro elementary school. The male driver reportedly slammed his car into a tree just outside of the Kentucky school.

The fatal one-vehicle accident reportedly took place just after 10:00 PM on Wednesday evening, September 16, 2009 in Owensboro, Kentucky.

The driver has been identified as 31-year-old Christopher Redd. Police reports indicate that Redd was traveling westbound on Tamarack Road when he lost control of the vehicle. The car slid off the road and slammed into a tree head-on outside of the elementary school. The school was not in session at the time of the crash.

A local fire and rescue crew responded to the Kentucky car accident. Redd was immediately transported by the rescue crew to a local hospital. Authorities report that he died a short time later.

Local drivers were inconvenienced when Tamarack Road was shut-down for over an hour while crews cleaned up the accident.  Investigators were also sent to the scene of the crash in order to reconstruct the accident.

The reason that Redd lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the tree is unknown at this point. Reports have not been made available as of yet to determine if alcohol played a role in the incident. The accident is still under investigation.
