Motorcycle Accident in Louisville Ends in Fatality

October 17, 2011 – Louisville, Ky. – A motorcyclist was killed in an early-morning accident on Sunday, October 16.

WHAS11 reports that the accident happened early in the morning on River Road in Louisville. A motorcycle was driving on the roadway when, for reasons unknown, it crashed. Further details in regards to how the accident occurred are not yet available.

The 21-year-old motorcyclist, Brian Pittz, was critically injured in the accident and had to be transported to University of Louisville Hospital for medical attention. Pittz was pronounced dead in the hospital at 3:30 a.m. by the Jefferson County coroner.

It is unclear whether or not Pittz was wearing a helmet when his motorcycle crashed. The motorcycle was not carrying any other passengers and no other vehicles were involved in the accident. No further injuries have been brought forth. The accident is under ongoing investigation by officials in Louisville.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s 2009 Kentucky Crash Statistics, there were 791 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents in Kentucky.
