Group B Strep is a very dangerous bacteria that affects many Kentucky mothers. Every doctor and hospital is aware of the danger Group B Strep presents yet every year a number of infants will become infected because a doctor's failure to screen and or treat a mother for GBS. Approximately 5% of infants affected by the infection will die. Others will face cerebral palsy, blindness, hearing loss and learning disabilities. Prevention is as simple as administering antibiotics to the mother as soon as labor starts.
