The family of a 29-year-old man settled a wrongful death case against the transportation company who was responsible for killing their son when the van taking him to prison rolled over. According to court records, the company's driver’s negligently fell asleep at the wheel while driving the young man from one facility to another. Further, the company was accused of not properly training its employees of such transports.
According to an Associated Press article detailing the 2008 crash, there were two guards wearing seat belts and seven other unsecured inmates in the vehicle at the time of the car wreck. Inmates reportedly screamed when they noticed the 43-year old driver had fallen asleep while operating the van.
