Aug. 3, 2010 - Eddyville, KY - A serious truck accident on Interstate 24 caused several hours of traffic congestion when 4 semi trucks became tangled on the westbound lanes.
WLKY Louisville reports that the July 28 crash caused a fuel leak that further delayed the opening of the westbound highway. Traffic was diverted up an exit ramp and around the crash site.
At least 3 victims were transported from the scene to nearby hospitals. One was airlifted to an undisclosed hospital while at least 2 others were taken by ambulance to Caldwell County Hospital. No details on the victims' names or conditions have been released and the I-24 truck accident is undergoing investigation.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2008 Kentucky Crash Statistics, there were 826 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents in Kentucky.
