Covington Accident Involves Car, Motorcycle & Multiple Trucks

A motorcyclist was killed in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 75 in Covington, Kentucky. The accident took place on the shoulder of Interstate 75 just south of the 12th Street exit. The Covington accident occurred at approximately 4:30 PM on Monday afternoon, September 21, 2009.

The motorcyclist, identified as Harvey Gauthier, 60, of Northern Kentucky, apparently hit a tow truck that was parked on the shoulder of the highway. According to police, the tow truck was partially on the right lane as well as in the emergency area.

Gauthier was hit by a second car after he was thrown from his motorcycle.  Two semi-trucks were also involved in the fatal accident when they collided in an attempt to avoid Gauthier and the car that hit him.

Gauthier was immediately transported to University Hospital where he later died of wounds resulting from the crash.  No injuries were reported from the other drivers involved in the multi-vehicle crash.

Thousands of commuters were also affected by the crash on the Kentucky Interstate. According to reports, the highway was closed for approximately four hours. Traffic jams were also reported on Interstate 471 as traffic was diverted to it.

The accident is currently under investigation. An accident reconstruction team has been brought in to assist in the investigation.

According to reports, no criminal charges have been filed as of yet.
