July 28, 2010 - Clark County, KY - A flipped semi truck caused a nearly 7 hour delay on I-64 as crews tried to remove the vehicle from the roadway.
In a report from WKYT27, traffic was said to have been severely delayed after a semi truck flipped onto the side of I-64 near mile marker 95. This area, already slow going due to construction to fix a bridge, was closed down to one lane following the crash which sent the driver to the hospital.
Around 6:30 Wednesday morning the semi, loaded with produce, hit the guardrail and went off the roadway, hitting a ditch and flipping onto its side. The truck accident luckily did not involve any other vehicles and no fuel leaks were reported from the semi.
The driver was taken to the Clark Regional Medical Center with undetermined injuries; however Winchester Police say he was talking and coherent. Investigators are still looking into what caused the driver to lose control and cause the truck accident.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2008 Kentucky Crash Statistics, there were 826 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents in Kentucky.
