A Louisville car accident involving two vehicles and a pedestrian ends in the death of a 37-year-old woman. The incident took place at approximately 6:30 PM on Friday evening, November 20, 2009 near the intersection of Baxter Avenue and Rogers Street.
According to the Louisville Metro Police Department, Nuril Papapietro, 37, of Goshen, was struck when she stumbled and fell onto Baxter Avenue. The driver of a truck that was heading southbound on Baxter Avenue, who saw Papapietro stumble into the street, was able to successfully swerve and avoid hitting the woman. However, a second vehicle traveling behind the truck was not able to stop or avoid her and hit the woman.
Rescue workers transported Papapietro to nearby University Hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later from injuries sustained in the accident.
The car that hit Papapietro reportedly fled the scene. The car has been described as a white or light colored 90’s Pontiac transport van or crossover vehicle. It is believed that the vehicle suffered damage to the front end area.
The hit-and-run accident is still under investigation by local authorities.
