Many children have been severely injured by an outbreak of food poisoning. 1,600 people have been injured and more than half a billion eggs recalled by the Iowa company, Wright County Eggs. This is occurring across the country, including in Kentucky. Lawsuits filed in federal courts include details of children documented for prolonged suffering from headaches, cramps, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, lack of appetite, weight loss and pain.
According to one family whose 11-year old daughter was food poisoned from contaminated eggs, a family was forced to cut its Independence Day holiday camping trip short when their child began to suffer from headaches, cramps and nausea. For hours, the child experienced pain, vomiting, diarrhea, and a worsening of symptoms, in addition to not being able to consume food or liquid. She was taken to the emergency room, admitted to the hospital and suffered from extreme and intense pain which caused her to cry continually.
After three days in the hospital, and after having lost 7 pounds in weight, the child was diagnosed with salmonella poisoning and was discharged by doctors. The child was kept on a restricted diet for one week and was unable to engage in daily activities, including competing on her school team's final softball tournament due to her weakened state.
