September 7, 2010 - Perry County, KY - Motorcyclist Christopher Polly is among the victims whose lives were claimed in a Labor Day weekend fatal crash.
According to reports from WKYT27, Polly was traveling southbound on Highway 7 in Cornettsville when his motorcycle crossed over into the northbound lane and struck a guardrail. The impact caused him to sustain critical injuries. Polly was then transported to Hazard ARH Regional Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.
The accident is still undergoing investigation and toxicology reports are pending.
Three other Labor Day weekend fatal crashes occurred in the nearby counties of Jefferson, Pulaski and Wayne. Police believe alcohol was a factor in the Jefferson County crash. Labor day weekend is one of the busiest traffic weekends of the year and tends to result in higher instances of serious and fatal traffic accidents.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2008 Kentucky Crash Statistics, there were 826 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents in Kentucky.
