A Louisville car accident involving five vehicles was reportedly caused by a local fugitive after leading police on a high speed chase. The five-car pileup took place on Wednesday, December 30, 2009, near the Zandale shopping center.
According to local police, the incident began at the Speedway near the Zandale shopping center when a police officer, who was filling up his vehicle, witnessed a car speeding away from the gas station. The fleeing car sped up as the officer began to pursue the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle struck five cars after running a red light on Nicholasville Road.
Fortunately, there were no serious injuries reported from the accident.
Police were finally able to apprehend the suspect after the short high speed chase and has been identified as Kerry Russell Jones of Louisville. Police shortly discovered that Jones was driving a stolen car and had warrants for his arrest. Jones spent the new year in jail at the Fayette County Jail.
It was unknown as to whether Jones suffered injuries in the crash.
The multi-vehicle Louisville accident is still under investigation by local authorities. According to police, Jones’ outstanding warrants stemmed from charges of assault on a police officer and escape.
