Louisville Fire Truck Accident

Posted on Jun 29, 2009

According to the driver of the fire engine that lost control and crashed, the water shifted in the pumper’s tank.

At the time of the fire truck accident in Louisville, there were five firefighters riding in the truck on their way to free a person reportedly trapped in a wrecked vehicle that had overturned on Ky. 448.

Kentucky State Police Trooper Jason Drane, who is conducting the investigation, said that the water pumper truck was traveling east in the right lane of Ky. 448.  Theresa Day, the 49-year-old fire truck driver, told Drane that she was trying to merge into the left lane to pass slower moving traffic when the water shifted in the truck’s tank, causing the tires to lose traction.

Day was not able to control the vehicle, as it crossed the westbound lanes and flipped in the ditch line along the westbound shoulder.  The firefighters aboard the truck sustained minor injuries and were treated at the University of Louisville Hospital.

One firefighter was released the evening of the crash and the others were released the next morning.

The fire truck sustained heavy damage and is out of service.
