A man has been charged with murder after he hit two pedestrians, killing one person. According to Kentucky State Police, he was speeding and was intoxicated at the time of the crash.
Erick Hendrix, a 20-year-old Madisonville resident, is being held at the Hopkins County Detention Center, and faces charges that include murder, first degree assault, driving while intoxicated with aggravating circumstances and leaving the scene of an accident.
The Kentucky pedestrian accident took place at 11:44 PM on the evening of Thursday, July 2, 2009 on Noel Avenue in Madisonville, said Kentucky State Police.
According to witnesses, Hendrix lost control of his 2000 Mercury Sable and drove up onto a sidewalk and yard and hit Lachelle Williams, 30, and Thomasa Wallace, 39.
Wallace was transported to the hospital for treatment for injuries and Williams was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
Hendrix and his passengers tried to flee the scene on foot after their car hit a building and utility pole. Hendrix eventually turned himself in at the Madisonville Police Department. Two of his passenger returned to the accident scene and the third passenger was found at Regional Medical Center after seeking medical attention for injuries he suffered in the crash.
