July 16, 2010 - Springfield, KY - A tragic truck accident early Friday morning resulted in one Elizabethtown man dead and one other driver injured when an out of control tractor-trailer struck 4 vehicles on U.S. 150.
The News-Enterprise reports that 45-year-old Victor Walters was killed when his 2001 Honda was struck and then pinned under a tractor-trailer whose driver had fallen asleep. The semi-truck was driven by Stephen Sizemore, 54, who fell asleep at the wheel around 7:45AM.
The semi first struck a 2011 Toyota Camry driven by Koichi Kaawamur, 29, and then a 2000 Nissan Sentra driven by Amanda Joe Trent, 26, both residents of Bardstown. Trent was sent to Spring View Hospital with minor injuries and later released. Kaawamur was uninjured and all drivers were reported to have been wearing seatbelts.
After striking the first 2 vehicles, the semi continued to drive out of control until it struck the front of Walters' Honda. The tractor-trailer then overturned on top of the Honda, trapping Walters inside his own vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene and transported to the Louisville Medical Examiner's Office for autopsy.
