
October 27, 2011 - Columbia, Ky. - A teenager was killed and a man was injured in a car accident on Wednesday, October 26.
WAVE 3 reports that the accident happened early Wednesday morning on KY 206, about 2 miles east of Columbia. Kentucky State Police said that a car was travelling on the road when its driver lost control as the vehicle went around a turn. The driver overcorrected, sending the vehicle into the opposite lane of traffic, where it was hit by a van.
The vehicle's driver, Latasha Bryant, 17, was rushed to Westlake Regional Hospital immediately following the accident. She was declared dead in the hospital.
The driver of the van, Charles Rone, a 56-year-old man from Bullitt County, was injured in the accident. He had to be flown to the hospital. The extent of his injuries is unknown at this time.
According to investigators, both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.
Based on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 Kentucky Crash Statistics, there were 791 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents in Kentucky.
