Last Thursday night, four friends were heading to Bowling Green from Woodburn to see a movie, when their vehicle left Three Springs Road and struck a giant maple tree. Three were killed in the crash.
Brittney Wells, 19, of Woodburn, was driving a 1999 Honda Accord with passengers, Shawn Wiesbrooks, 23, of Bowling Green, Emily Long, 19, of Woodburn, and Josh Bunch, 19 of Woodburn. Wells crossed the left lane at 8130 Three Springs Road at approximately 8:55 PM. The vehicle left the road and smashed into a tree, but investigators are still unclear as to what caused the accident.
Wells and Wiesbrooks, who had been riding in the front passenger seat, were pronounced dead at the scene by Warren County Deputy Coroner Dwayne Lawrence. Long died from injuries sustained in the accident on Friday morning. Bunch was taken to The Medical Center and is listed as being in stable condition.
Bunch, Long and Wells attended Woodburn Baptist Church and Wells and Long had been active in youth groups.
The two women killed in the crash were Greenwood High School graduates. According to Rev. Tim Harris, “they were really, really sweet girls.” Long’s Facebook.com page was filled with messages of condolences for Long and Wells.
Steve Pattison heard the accident from his home on Three Springs Road, which is approximately two miles outside of Woodburn. He described the sound of the accident as an explosion. Pattison thought it had been a gas explosion. When he went to the scene of the crash, he saw the Honda Accord crumpled against the large tree. “It was just terribly crushed,” said Pattison.
The driver of another car pulled into a neighbor’s driveway and yelled for someone to call 911. Emergency responders were at the scene in minutes.
