Aug. 10, 2010 - Caryville, TN - A Louisville truck driver was killed when his tanker truck plunged more than 1,000 feet off a slope on I-75 near Caryville in Tennessee.
WLKY.com reports that Gary Gabehart, 60, of Louisville, KY was driving the tanker filled with liquid nitrogen on July 29 when he lost control of the rig. The driver was attempting to stop the vehicle because of slowed traffic ahead caused by a previous accident.
His trailer jackknifed and clipped a nearby pickup truck. The tanker truck began to veer to the right, and eventually broke through a guardrail. The tanker plunged down the embankment and fell about 1,000 feet. Gabehart was flung from the truck though he was wearing a seatbelt.
The pickup truck was overturned in the crash, but the driver escaped with injuries. Gabehart died at the scene of the I-75 truck crash.
