Two men from Newburgh were injured in a crash on the afternoon of Saturday, January 24, 2009, after their pickup truck overturned on the Pennyrile Parkway in Henderson County.
The driver, David A. Deffendoll, a 52-year-old man, was operating the 1999 Chevrolet S-10, heading north. The vehicle left the road and rolled several times, according to the Henderson County Sheriff’s Department. It is still unclear what caused Deffendoll to leave the road.
The car accident occurred at 3:45 PM and no other vehicles were involved.
David Deffendoll and his passenger, Keith Deffendoll, a 39-year-old man, were both wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident, according to Deputy Sheriff Harvey D. Sizemore. Both men had to be extricated from the pickup truck.
Pennyrile Parkway was closed for approximately 30 minutes while a helicopter landed on the roadway to transport David Deffendoll to St. Mary’s Medical Center at Evansville. He was listed as being in stable condition in the hospital’s intensive care unit that night. Keith Deffendoll was taken by ambulance to Methodist Hospital at Henderson.
Every year, thousands of accidents occur on Kentucky roads and highways. Although not all of these crashes are fatal, people still suffer serious injuries. In 2007, there were 26,160 injury crashes reported in Kentucky and 803 fatal accidents.
According to a statement by Governor Steven L. Beshear, injury and death on Kentucky highways “can be dramatically reduced if everyone will be alert, observe speed limits, never drink and drive, and always buckle-up. By following these few common sense rules, we can make our roadways safer for all Kentuckians.”
