February 18, 2011 - Jefferson County, KY - A Western High teen died on February 9 after she was struck by a car while crossing the street on her way to school, the Courier-Journal.com has reported.
Adrienne White, 16, was trying to get across Cane Run Road when the fatal pedestrian accident occurred. She was pronounced dead at University Hospital shortly after 8:30 p.m. An autopsy was expected to be performed on February 10.
According to published reports, Adrienne and 2 other girls were attempting to cross the street to Rockford Lane from Lees Lane just before 7 a.m. when a Mitsubishi Eclipse struck her. The 2 girls who were with Adrienne said they were on their way to school.
According to preliminary investigations, the girls were not in a crosswalk and there was no traffic light where they tried to cross the street. A crossing guard who works in that area had not arrived for duty at the time of the pedestrian accident.
The driver of the Mitsubishi was not expected to be charged, police said.
