December 16, 2011 – Newburg, Ky. – A motorcyclist suffered fatal injuries when a drunk driver struck his bike on the evening of Monday, December 12.

Reports, from the Courier-Journal, revealed that Aleksandar Dejanovic was riding his motorcycle northbound on Poplar Level Road when his bike was struck from behind by Deon Eiland, 40, who according to police was driving while drunk.

The impact of the crash ejected Dejanovic from his bike and flung him into Eiland’s windshield before he landed on the pavement. He suffered a skull fracture and serious internal injuries. Police believe that even though the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet, the strap broke due to the force of the impact.

Dejanovic was rushed to University Hospital and listed in critical condition. Eiland is facing charges of DUI, wanton endangerment, first- and third-degree assault, and resisting arrest. Eiland’s criminal record shows prior charges of speeding, reckless driving, and operating a moped without a license.
