Some cases are too expensive, too technical, or too far from home for the lawyer who first takes the call, and our Kentucky attorney referral program at Gray & White Law was built for them. That might be a tractor-trailer crash in a work zone, a stroke that an emergency room sent home, or a birth injury that will need a six-figure expert budget long before anyone files a lawsuit.
We also hear from attorneys outside the state whose clients were hurt on a Kentucky interstate or treated at a Kentucky hospital. They need a lawyer licensed here who knows the courts, the juries, and the defense bar, and we have filled that role for lawyers across the country.
That reach is built on decades of trial work. Founding partners Mark Gray and Matt White have spent more than 25 years trying high-stakes injury cases, and from our Louisville office, the firm has represented families in nearly every county in Kentucky. Whether a case starts down the street or three states away, it gets the same team and the same preparation.
What Makes Gray & White Law Different?
We are a boutique trial firm, and we keep our caseload small on purpose. Most of our clients come to us directly, so we are selective about the cases we take on referral. When we take one, it gets the same attention as a case we signed ourselves.
If a case is straightforward and you can carry it yourself, you probably should. Where we earn our place is the case that needs more than one lawyer's budget or bandwidth can handle. That usually comes down to three things.
-
Money. A catastrophic medical malpractice or trucking case can cost a couple hundred thousand dollars in experts, records, and depositions before it resolves. We have the resources to fund that work and the patience to see it through. About 90% of our cases settle, but they settle because the defense knows we will take them to trail if that's what's necessary to secure the best deal for our client.
-
Experience. We have spent more than 25 years in expensive, high-stakes injury litigation. We know how to build a case with several defendants, several theories of fault, and a causation fight at the center of it.
-
People. Our in-house nurse reviews medical records alongside our attorneys. And over the years we have built working relationships with physicians, engineers, and other experts across the country who take our calls.

We Can Serve As Kentucky Co-Counsel for Out-of-State Attorneys
A large share of the referrals we receive come from lawyers in other states. Their client was hurt in Kentucky, or treated by a Kentucky doctor or hospital, and they don't know a Kentucky lawyer they trust with the case.
Kentucky has a few rules that catch visiting counsel off guard. The biggest is time. Most personal injury and medical malpractice claims must be filed within one year under Kentucky's one-year statute of limitations, KRS 413.140. Many other states allow two years or more, so a case that feels new to you may already be close to its deadline here. Kentucky also has its own damages language, such as a claim for the destruction of the power to labor and earn money, and its own habits in how juries and judges view these cases.
If you have a Kentucky case, call us early. We can tell you quickly whether the clock is a problem and how we would approach the case.
