September 6, 2011 – Louisville, Ky. – A pedestrian died after being struck by a car on Sunday, September 4.
WHAS11 reports that the accident happened at about 9 p.m. in the 1200 block of Dixie Highway close to the west Jefferson County line. David Leanhart, 50, said that he was driving his white Chevrolet Silverado truck on the highway when he thought he hit something and stopped to see what it was.
The “object” Leanhart struck was a pedestrian who had been seen walking up and down the highway multiple times Sunday.
Officials arrived on the scene to find the pedestrian dead in the south lanes of the highway. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the pedestrian hasn’t yet been released.
Whether or not alcohol was a factor in the accident remains unclear. Leanhart hasn’t been charged in connection with this accident. The accident is under ongoing investigation.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s 2009 Kentucky Crash Statistics, there were 791 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents in Kentucky.
