Posted on Jul 15, 2009

One teen was killed and seven others were injured in a Louisville rollover accident.  The fatal crash occurred in Louisville’s Cherokee Park and involved only one vehicle.

Emergency crews responded to a call to the 1800 block of Cherokee Road inside Cherokee Park at approximately 9:30 PM.   Louisville Metro Police believe that the eight teenagers were in an SUV that was speeding when the driver lost control of the vehicle.  As a result, the SUV rolled over several times and one person was ejected.

The teenager who was killed in the crash was identified as 16-year-old Natalie Thompson.  She was one of the passengers and had been riding in the very back of the vehicle near the rear hatch.  As the SUV rolled over, the hatch opened and she was ejected.

The other seven teenagers were taken to Kosair Children’s Hospital for treatment for their injuries.  It is believed that their injuries were not life threatening.

The posted speed limit in the area where the crash occurred is 25 miles-per-hour.
