Most class actions are filed to effect change in the defendant and to recover monies for injuries or damages. Class actions may also be filed to resolve disputes over a limited fund, where the money that’s available is insufficient or inadequate to fully compensate all class members. At times, there are declaratory judgment class actions filed requesting the court to make a decision as to the rights and obligations of the parties. Sometimes, class representatives may ask the court to order a person to do something or stop doing something, also referred to as an injunctive relief class action.
