2 Women Killed by Drunk Driver on US Highway 25 in Walton

December 15, 2011 – Walton, Ky. – A car accident on U.S. 25, left 2 female passengers fatally injured when the car they were riding in slammed into a utility pole and split the vehicle in half Saturday morning, December 10.

A report from The Courier-Journal newspaper states that 22-year-old Logan Ellis was the driver in the vehicle containing 2 passengers. The victims, Heather Stanley, 21, and Stacy Hopkins, 43, both suffered fatal injuries in the incident.

According to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, Ellis was drunk as he sped around a curve and lost control of the vehicle. It slammed into a utility pole, splitting the car in half, and ejecting one of the passengers.

The other woman was found still in the back seat of the vehicle, and both were confirmed dead on the scene. Ellis turned himself in on Monday where he was charged with 2 counts of murder and driving under the influence.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s 2009 Kentucky Crash Statistics, there were 791 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents in Kentucky.
