5 Students Injured in Louisville School Bus Accident

December 8, 2011 – Louisville, Ky. – A handful of elementary students were transported to the hospital after a car hit their school bus on Tuesday, December 6.

reports that the accident happened in the afternoon at the intersection of East Indian Trail and Petersburg Road. The Jefferson County Public School bus was travelling through the intersection when it was struck by a car.

Several students from Price Elementary School were on the bus at the time of the accident and 5 were reported injured. The 5 students were transported to Kosair Children’s Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The car’s driver received a citation for operating a vehicle with a learners permit without having a licensed driver in the car.

Officials with Louisville Metro Police said that a passenger in the car fled the scene on foot immediately following the accident.

The accident is under ongoing investigation with local authorities.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s 2009 Kentucky Crash Statistics, there were 791 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents in Kentucky.
